He Is Easy To Mess With

Unexpected company last week left me a bit weary. I was tired enough to sleep, though and now that is all I want to do! I think the daily thunderstorm just adds to my desire to escape in sleep.

I checked the forecast this morning and it is supposed to be a nice sunny day. The sun does shine, but a constant drizzle is falling and keeping me inside. I was determined to hike to the She Shed, but afraid it will start to rain in earnest, and I will be stuck there.

Eddie and I checked on the vegetable garden and picked a handful of sweet peas. Then Eddie decided to make himself comfy in the garden bed. He knows better. I finally convinced him to come out the same way he went in and not disturb the tender plants. Then he was going to head down the ravine! I yelled at him to stop in his tracks, and he did. After that He was dawdling along as we headed back around the house to go inside. About halfway there he simply sat down and refused to move. I am trying not to pick anything up that might bring about more back pain. I finally gave in and hoisted the fat dog up in my arms to go inside. I swear, if only he could purr!

Eddie isn't bad very often. It is that stubborn streak that gets him in trouble. Good thing he is loved. I did notice my hollyhock is loving the rainy weather and has a dozen or more blooms. I am into succulents this season. I bought a rather large pot on clearance with maybe 6 varieties in it. I bought the largest plant tray meant to catch run-off for a really big planter and filled it with a layer of rocks and then potting soil and drilled a couple of small holes in it to drain. I must have done a good job because they bloomed!

Since I am housebound and could only paint, a lot of craft supplies have made their way down to the house. When I learned that company was coming, I took a good look around and decided that I need a better place to store my paints and other supplies. It all ended up under my bed and both of us were stubbing toes on the big plastic container that didn't quite fit.

I decided that since I have only two chairs at the table in the small eating area, I should build a bench on the far side of the table next to the wall. The master of the house (we all know that it is only a title that he embraces) was not pleased with my decision. You would have thought I asked him to participate! I did not.

I have been trolling Marketplace looking for something I can modify. I was thinking a coffee table would work. I could cut the legs down and even cut off one side if it was too wide. Then add a bench underneath to hold bins of supplies. So far, I have yet to find what I am looking for. I would need to trade out the table currently sitting in that spot. It is round with hairpin legs that would interfere with my bench. The rectangle table that was in here is in the She Shed. I have it all planned out in my head and will execute my plan when he is otherwise occupied.

I doubt he will even notice if I finish before he sees me working. I save everything (no surprise there) and sometimes a plan just comes together. I kept the front part of a big round fan that died. My husband was confused when I grabbed it from him on the way to the dumpster. It is black and looked like a spider web to me. I had no idea in mind 6 years ago as to what it might become. I slipped it between boxes on the cargo trailer for the big move here and he didn't see it until we were unloading. I won't repeat what he had to say about it.

I also hang onto lampshades. I had a rather large one that was never going to grace the top of a lamp in my tiny house. This is why I have a She Shed that he is not allowed to enter. I was struck with inspiration recently and knew those two items would soon be on my deck with the black metal furniture.

Yesterday morning in the sweet spot of time that the sun was shining I spray painted that lampshade frame black after I ripped away the fabric. The fan front was already black, which is good since I ran out of paint. I just happen to have some tiny black zipties to hold my new plant table together! It is so cute with my big round pan of succulents atop it. No, the man of the house did not notice the addition to the deck. Maybe one day he will see it and wonder what it is and how it got there. This is when I will feign ignorance and tell him he bought it for me last year and it has been there since he built the deck.

He is so easy to mess with.
