Cheapness is Sometimes Not!

Seems like I work hard one day, then spend two days recovering. I was up at 7 and it was downright chilly. The phone woke me, not that Bo was unhappy at the prospect of getting an early start to the day. It was my dentist office, reminding me that I have an appointment ...... next week.

I opened the doors for the dogs to make their way to a freshly mown yard to take care of business. I stumbled around getting coffee and then sat in silence to drink it and wait for my head to clear and become fully awake. Didn't happen. I may as well have been drinking sleepy time tea. So, I did what any sane person would do and scooped Fat Eddie up in my arms and went back to bed.

Back up at 11:30. Still nice and cool and I should be working on my upper garden, but here I sit drinking a second dose of caffeine. I went to bed early last night but did not get to sleep until around 11. Still, I should not be this foggy. But I am getting older every minute. Inactivity conjures up feelings of guilt. Why? I don't know.

I need 36 steppingstones to complete my pathway to Wit's End (She Shed). Wrong time of year to purchase them. Walmart is out of stock, and all the building supply places are trying to get rid of them. so I would have to hunt them down. I went on-line and got confused when I saw that they had a 12" by 12" paver described as rectangular. It baffles the mind and mine went on a detour of thinking how someone proofreading the ad could have missed it.

But I digress. In a discussion with my mate that he somehow heard and comprehended all my words, it was decided that we would just mix up quick Crete and make them. I gathered up the pieces of scrap lumber to make the frames and convinced the man with the hammer that we should screw them together to make it easier to take apart. It took some doing to make him get the drill instead of the hammer, but persevered and won the argument.

We were ambitious and made 5 of them. Then we got the 50lb bag opened and mixed it. The handle on the hoe broke during the mix, but we continued with the short handle left. We were so optimistic, we thought we would get at least 4 out that 50lb. bag. It was definitely labor intensive, and we got TWO out of that 50lb bag!

Tomorrow we will be visiting Home Depot and Lowes to try to get some pavers. They are actually cheaper to buy than make. Well, now we know!

  1. I am relieved that you are not making 36 stepping stones! The possibility for mysterious injuries resulting from such a task is tremendous! You could complete the walkway, but end up unable to reach your Wit's End.

    1. You should see those steppingstones we made!! I should have pondered a few sleepless nights about my steppingstones, and I would have realized that they should only be 2" deep. We used 1X4's after a long argument about the virtue and holding power of 2X4's and I totally lost any intelligent thoughts and filled the frames to the brim as the brainless man instructed me to. Now I have to bring in dirt to make sure they don't become tripping stones!
