What's In A Name
I have a friend who names her vehicles. She was into cars and racing. I tend to name animals and sometimes places. I have decided "She Shed" is too generic for one such as myself. Insomnia has its benefits. I have decided to name my shed "Wit's End" since this is where I like to go to clear my mind.
There are plenty of feral cats to name here. The cute multicolored kittens may or may not be female, but I have dubbed them Ethel and Lucy. Most of my contemporaries will know I Love Lucy. The mother cat is solid black with just a touch of brown on her flank. I have always wanted a cat named Mousy Tongue. I do realize that this name could apply to male or female and since I know that she is definitely a female, maybe I should go with a definitely female name. But that would make sense. Mousy Tongue is her name.
I have found three ticks on me in the past week. I will not be naming them, as they are all dead. I am pretty sure they came from the area up the driveway. We broadcast tick and ant killer around the outside of the dog yard and the house. I give them Bravecto regularly and check them as often as I check myself. The cats probably have fleas, but I doubt they will let me apply anything to them.
The yellow tomcat named Garfield is becoming tame. He was sitting upon the riding mower's seat this morning and did not even blink as I approached. He let me pet him and give his head and neck a good scratch. I have yet to hear him purr, but this touching looks promising. My Eddie wants to play with the cats. He misses Martha, the boy cat. Martha was already present when Eddie came to live with us. Compared to Martha, Garfield looks tiny! He is still pretty thin, despite his steady diet of food provide by his master.
The Cat Whisperer thinks his cats will need some luxuries in life and will be constructing a house for them. He thinks the name of the house would be The Cat House, but I think we will just call it The Brothel. The location will be in the carport, now being named the Cat Cafe.
Garfield has taken up permanent residence here, as have Mousy Tongue and her kittens, Ethel and Lucy. There is a fluffy gray cat that shows up on occasion and that little yellow demon kitten that attacked me. I have been told there are lots more that arrive at dusk, which is feeding time. Gee, I hope The Brothel will not be bigger than the carport!
The Cat Man picked up one of the kittens the other day to pet it and Mousy Tongue charged at him! She is a good Mama! I think that Lucy and Ethel could be twins, as we can't tell them apart. They have been hanging out on the big deck on the embankment, but today they decided to try out the deck attached to the house. Eddie and BoJangles went a little berserk and stood at the screen door barking at Mousy Tongue. She simply sat there staring at them with her yellow eyes. They just want to be friends! This will not happen until they are tame enough to succumb to a vet visit and a bath!
I hope you have plenty of protective gear the first time you try to give one of those cats a bath!
ReplyDeleteIt may take some time to gain their trust and to convey my alpha-ness! But when I am determined, I can be a force of nature. They will learn that I bite back! Garfield has finally succumbed to my charms. Now he finds me when I am outside and winds between my legs like Martha used to do. He still does not appreciate being picked up, but he keeps his claws under control. Mousey Tongue is proving to be a tough one! Two more have shown up. Ugly, they have all the colors mingled in their fur and not in an attractive way. One is adult and one is younger and smaller. I call them Marble and Mini Marble! I have finally gotten into the faces of Ethel and Lucy. Ethel has a lot of black in her face and Lucy has a lighter, prettier face. Ethel wears some long white boots on her rear legs, while Lucy are short white shoes. Next step is to trap them in a kennel and take them and Garfield to a vet for a very special operation. Garfield would appear to be the father of many of the kittens. Marble and Mousey Tongue tried to gang up on him and attack him yesterday. He avoided the confrontation by leaping onto the truck.
DeleteI have five outdoor cats I feed. The little Momcat had her kittens behind my sister's house the last summer before she died. Pam started feeding them and managed to get Momcat fixed but the three kittens were not old enough when she died. She tried to get the local animal rescue to take them but no dice. Momcat is tame and I think she was dumped when she got pregnant. When my sister died, I started feeding them. Her three boys weren't exactly feral but it took months before I was able touch and then pet them and eventually handle them enough to get them to the vet and fixed. They are two years old now and tame and this is where they live. The three boys (Lovey, Handsome Boy, and Twin) are a bonded trio. Then last year a black male feral cat started showing up to eat. My grandgirl named him Ghost. At first he would wait at the edge of the property until the human left, then closer, and now he basically lives behind the house always right there at mealtime though he won't let either of us touch him yet.
ReplyDeleteOh, and Wit's End is perfect.
