I Hate New Things!

Yesterday, while out buying the steppingstones, we decided, on a whim to pull into the Verizon store and upgrade our phones. It is supposed to be free. Well, the new phone is free, but there are all these other charges to deal with and transferring the stuff on the phone. Long story short, we did not complete the transaction yesterday and the man who likes to run errands was all about racing back over there today for what was supposed to be 10 minutes.

We all know that old folks such as myself, hate new things. I chose NOT to go and savored my alone time. Maybe I savored it a little too much. I traipsed up the driveway to check on the zinnia I recently transplanted and ponder life. I am adept at multi-tasking, so I decided to lay some paver while pondering. Yes, my back and shoulder are still bothering me, but those steppingstones were not going to lay themselves.

We only got 20 yesterday, so I thought I could get those down, since the man with the new phones was going to purchase the rest. I was busy, pulling weeds and laying down cardboard before beginning to put the stones down. Everything is covered with copious amounts of cardboard to kill the grass, mostly weeds and all set to put the stones down. They really aren't that heavy, and I was getting lots of walking in as I picked them up one at a time.

I can eyeball space and get it right. When I tired of the hauling process, I was putting in the tree bark mulch that I gathered myself and cost me nothing. I decided to use it on one side of the path and the red mulch on the other side. I should have enough red mulch, but it will be thinly spread until next season.

I kept thinking he would be pulling in the drive and would be so impressed with my efforts. It went along fine until I smashed a finger laying stone #14. I was thirsty and amazed at my progress in such a short time. I walked back to the house, listening to my dogs bark insanely at Mousy Tongue on the deck. Mousy seems to find annoying the dogs to be an amusing pass time. Still can't touch her, though she runs up to me every time I go outside.

They run out in a group, all the female cats, while the only male sits high on the steps, watching over his family. Marble, the ugly cat is always here, as well as Mousy tongue and Lucy. The new one, Prego seems to be warming to me quicker than the others. I am hoping to get a tiny kitten and tame it from her. Who am I kidding, I want to tame them all.

Toni Louise definitely has hearing loss and cataracts. Poor old girl, she is always so happy to see us. Even if we just walk outside to do a quick chore, when we return, she acts like she is being picked up after a week away from us. She has started to choke easily. We changed her diet to soft food, but she gets distracted easily and the boy dogs race to her bowl to enjoy her food. I have noticed her limping periodically and she seems a little spastic from time to time. I know our days are numbered and that makes me sad. Last night, in the middle of the night I heard a banging and clanging and got up to find that she had gotten her toes stuck in the floor vent and she was trying to walk with it stuck to her foot. She kept lifting her paw and shaking it as she tried to free herself. She let me help her and then wanted into our bed. I had to lift her, she either could not jump or forgot how.

She is watching me now with a big goofy grin on her face. I hope she is not in any pain, because how would I know? I remember when she was hit by a truck and acted like nothing had happened and her hip was dislocated. She has been a good companion, the only time she complains is when Bo refuses to leave her be, then she will make a garbled growl at him.

The phone has STILL not completely downloaded my apps. Mainly my reading app. I really do hate new stuff.

  1. The last time I upgraded my phone I realized how seamless Apple makes transferring everything. Yet another reason I am a fan.

    1. It is an Apple phone. I think something went awry when we had to postpone the end of the transaction to the next day. They had a customer service meeting to go to that was mandatory. A mandatory meeting that was facilitated by leaving customers hanging seems like an oxymoron, right?

  2. Poor Toni Louise. She is lucky to have you looking out for her, since I can't imagine her favored master hearing her and getting out of bed to free her foot from a floor vent! Also, poor YOU, with your smashed finger. Although my sympathy is 10X greater for the stress of dealing with a NEW ELECTRONIC DEVICE! (I heard horror music chords when I typed that.)

    1. My finger survived. My patience with my phone is still a thorn in my side. My Toni Louise is such a sweet being. Never complains like Eddie who will stand and make so much noise if his doggie steps are not exactly where he wants them. I dread the day we lose her. She is my chatting friend in the middle of the night when I have to use the toilet. She enjoys a good rub down while I sit there. I have made it a priority to spend some time with her each day.
