Chances Are ....

After the ring debacle, the man tells me that he got me something I will like, but it is not quite ready yet. Really, thinking back over the previous 50 Christmas gifts, I will take his statement with a bit of apprehension.

Gee, what do we think it could be and where did he get it and why isn't it "ready" yet? Hmmm, I think it must be jewelry, because he was in a jewelry store having my ring fixed, instead of doing what I asked for. He is not a great shopper, so I think it is from that the same store. I mentioned my birthstone, so it must be something with a ruby. How am I doing?

One of my packages came today with gifts for the grands and grand nephews. When we visited Gavin at his new home, he mentioned needing something to keep Bruno's toys in. Bruno is his dog. So, when I was pulling all the items in the package out, the clueless man in my life asked me what one item was. It is a wire frame with fabric that has Frenchies all over it. For the dog toys. The man was amazed that I "thought" that gift up. All I did was pay attention when my grandson was showing me around his house.

"Imagine that" I said to the awe-struck man as he marveled at my gifting abilities, "you can actually choose something that you know someone will appreciate if you just listen to them!"

I made a batch of butter cream candies today while I made dinner and washed dishes. The man was wandering about aimlessly to see what was on the stove. I was grating orange peels for my orange candies. He saw me, surely, he could smell the orange scent. I had to ask for help in reaching the powdered sugar and he came and got the canister down for me, looking in the pots and pans on the stove again and glancing over to see what I was doing.

I asked later if he would like to sample the candy I made. He frowned in concentration as he tried to figure out what the flavor was. What flavor is more distinct that citrus? He looked so dumb as he thought and thought. "Orange?" I said. He almost shook his head in a negative manner until he finally figured out that I was giving him a clue. Or should I say, the answer. The clues were all there, right down to the orange flecks in the candy.

I am profoundly irritated in case you haven't noticed. All I want for Christmas is for someone to pay attention to me when I am speaking. Gee, I wonder what the chances are.

  1. How could it not be ready? Having it custom made? My sister inherited a diamond ring in an antique setting, gorgeous ring. She got the diamond as the oldest girl, I got the opal ring which is also gorgeous even though my birthstone is diamond and hers was opal. Anyway she wanted the diamond and an emerald she had and I think another stone reset together in a new ring and gave her husband the task as a present. Omg! He got together with a jeweler and they created the ugliest, heaviest, clunkiest modern setting. It was hideous. She wore it. Eventually had the stones removed and gave the diamond and the original setting to her daughter who had it put back together. So consider yourself lucky he had the original ring restored.

    1. You are right, I could have something I wouldn't even consider wearing!

  2. I guess as long as you go into the holiday with low expectations you won't be disappointed. Earlier this year when I updated my wedding set I accompanied Hubby to the jeweler and picked out exactly what I wanted. All he had to do is pay for it :-)

    1. Low expectations were not on my mind. I just figured with all the pictures and descriptions I showed him; he could do a fairly decent job. After all, he picked out the original ring and I loved it. I still love it, just wanted a more substantial ring under the setting. BUt, I probably won't live long enough for it to deteriorate. Morbid thought!
