Townhall Update

We arrived at the meeting to find the place packed with concerned citizens. So many people I began to doubt the results of the census that numbered the citizens of our county.

I saw the first inkling of this in a Facebook post. Knowing that some people love to exaggerate the facts and make them into something scandalous, I read it with a degree of skepticism. Then I was getting a daily text reminding me of the meeting, so I started to lend more credibility to the issue.

Upon arrival you have to sign in at the long table set up at the entrance. You are asked if you received a letter. Upon the negative answer you were sent to stand in a long line to await a representative to speak with. Most of those in the line were there because they saw it on Facebook.

The event was being hosted by the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority). They maintain the lines and sell electricity to Blue Ridge, who provides our power. They had engineers on hand to explain the proposal.

He answered all my questions to my satisfaction. No homes will be demolished, no land taken. They proposed two alternative routes for the placement of power lines. The property owners that would be affected were sent letters.

The reason for the entire thing is that Blue Ridge is planning for future needs for power in the area based on current statistics about growth in the area and dimming and blackout reports currently being made. No nefarious plot that was hinted at.

I am glad we went. Now if someone should try to tell me what is about to happen, I can respond intelligently.

We followed up with lunch and groceries. I haven't seen Marco in several days. Polo has learned to climb up the rail on the deck and walk back and forth. He spent a few hours inside with us. Most of it was him sleeping in my lap with Eddie's protective head over his body. I put him in the floor to explore and interact with the canines. Bo was delighted and ready to play. Eddie was jealous of any attention Polo got and kept getting between Bo and Polo. I suppose Eddie has claimed Polo as his cat. Toni Louise just happened in and noticed there was a cat in the house.

She introduced herself and let Polo sniff her face, then went on about her business. Just another animal in the menagerie!

  1. Is Marco the one who was harder to trust? He may have decided the wild life is for him. The little Momcat here has never showed back up. I'm glad the hysteria about the power company was just that.

    1. Marco is the sweet one that let me pick him up right away. Polo was the hissing, spitting demon. Polo is now quite happy to come inside to play with the dogs, then nap in my lap. Garfield has been out catting around, I hope he didn't take Marco with him.
