Name Changing, Is This A Thing?

Mr. BoJangles here. So many things have happened since the last time I posted. Where do I start?

It is very cold outside. It makes me do my business quickly and run back to the door to go inside. My Mom says, "do your business" and it means to poop and pee. In case you didn't know.

But here is the crazy part; it is just as cold inside as it is outside! Well, the wind is not blowing inside, so I guess that is worth something. All of us dogs have warm beds on the floor, and I can also jump into the bed with Dad and tunnel down under the covers. I can jump in bed; Eddie is too short and fat and Toni's too old and spindly. That means that I am just right!

When Dad awoke, he insisted that we bring that kitten inside. He has been visiting inside for some time now, but Dad wants him to actually LIVE inside with us dogs. Why? The cats are outside creatures and not a part of our family!

We had a cat before that we all loved. Martha, the boy cat, lived inside and outside. Martha was my best friend. He loved me since I was a tiny pup. He groomed me and protected me. Some mean outside dogs killed my Martha and broke my heart. I decided to never love another cat again.

At first there were two kittens that Mom would carry inside. Tiny kittens that fit in her pocket. She told me that I used to fit nicely in a pocket. I find that hard to believe! She called the kittens Marco and Polo and then she would laugh and laugh, saying their names over and over. Sometimes I wonder about Mom.

Now there is only the kitten she called Polo. I don't know what happened to Marco, all I can tell you is that he is not here anymore. I suppose I should be thankful for that, elsewise there would be two of the little troublemakers jumping from the sofa to the chair and back again. Mom changed Polo's name. I was not aware that this name changing could even be done!

She said that Polo made no sense without Marco. That made no sense to me. Mom said that names should match personalities and that is why I have such a big name. My personality must be enormous! Not to mention my endearing cuteness. She declared Polo to be "laid back" whatever that is supposed to mean.

Mom had a friend named Kevin. She said he was the brother she never had and always wanted. He died and Mom was very sad. I was a tiny pup when this happened. I met Kevin once. He held me and let me run all over him. He told Mom that I was a fine puppy and he was happy that Dad let her have me. Mom and I laughed about that! All she had to do was let Dad hold me and just like that the decision to have me join the family was made.

The cats belong to Dad. There is a whole bunch that come here to eat every day. Mom says that dad runs a cat cafe and rooming house. But, back to Kevin, Mom's brother from another mother. She decided to name the cat in our house Kevin. I have to admit that it is better than Polo. Despite the length of my name, they call me Bo. Just Bo. So much for a big personality needing a big name. If Mom uses my big name, it usually means that I have done something wrong. I hear this is true with humans, as well.

So, now we have this cat to deal with. He is curious, this cat called Kevin. He gets into lots of trouble inside. He dug up one of Mom's plants and she thumped his nose and said "NO". He just stared at her. I know what he was thinking. He was thinking, "You are not the boss of me!" That made me laugh, I told Eddie and Toni and we all laughed and laughed.

Of course, she is the boss of him and everyone in this house. Too bad her back is hurting, because I would love to see how Kevin would like a bath! We all know he will get one eventually.

In the meantime, Kevin is sleeping in our bed! He will sit at the foot of our bed and gaze upon his own reflection in the mirror. Mirrors scare me. I will not get too close to one of those mirrors, I am afraid I might fall in and disappear forever. I will have to control myself, because I am thinking about pushing Kevin into the mirror!

I am so disappointed in Eddie. He actually likes Kevin. He lets Kevin snuggle next to him and sleep. That is so wrong! We do not need a cat! I tried to convince Toni Louise to stand with me and protest this addition to our family, but she told me there is nothing we can do about it, that Mom knows best.

Maybe Mom does know best. But I know this; Kevin has been sitting on the edge of the sofa staring at Dora the Explorer in her tank. Dora is our turtle and has been with us all her life. If Kevin is thinking he might enjoy a meal of turtle meat, he will not be long in our world! Mom would certainly sweep that cat back outside!

More likely, though, Dora will show this cat who she is. She bit my nose and I steer clear of her. She bit Eddie's nose, too. He leaves a wide path when Dora is on a walk about in our house. Toni is old and wise. She never gets close enough to the turtle to get hurt. I look forward to the day she nips the nose of Kevin!!

    1. It is! And I get to remember my friend Kevin every time I say the name. This tiny slip of fur can really do some damage, this morning he knocked my propagation set up in the windowsill to the couch along with two potted plants. It was a muddy mess and I am sure my dogs are wondering why Kevin did not get in big trouble!
