The Man and His Ways

I am still pondering a new name for our feline. Several times I woke in the night to see him either sleeping at the foot of the bed or sitting in front of the mirror on the closet admiring his image. When he was really sleepy, he cuddled next to Eddie and Eddie draped his sweet head over the kitten and slept with him safe under his chin.

You might recall that Gray Lady invaded the underside of our home. When The Man built the new deck off the side of the enclosed deck, he removed the skirting around the small entrance to the door. I asked if he should replace that skirting. Oh no, said he, we are skirting the new deck, so it is not necessary. Sounded reasonable to me.

So, when it was 49 degrees in here the other morning, it was not the plate that flew down behind the shelving that sits in front of the thermostat. It was equally cold in here two days later. When the man awoke at the crack of noon (it was 11:45), he proclaimed it to be too cold in here. Let's over state the obvious!

He fiddled with the thermostat, and I told him I could hear the heat pump running. It was not getting warmer, but it was definitely on. We both put our hands down to the vent in the floor and could feel barely warm air. Just like a soft whisper, it was on, but not a lot of air was moving.

Then my husband, The Man, was struck with inspiration! He was annoyed that it was cold inside with snow in the forecast and our heat pump on the fritz. He was griping about having to get a new unit. Then, while I was busy reading he announced that he knew exactly what had happened. The cats had knocked some ductwork loose!

Who's responsible for that? The woman who suggested replacing the existing skirting that would eliminate critters accessing the underside of our home: or maybe The Man who decided he knew better? We all know it was his fault, always cutting corners. The Man has never assembled anything that did not have "extra parts". Not extra, he just decided to skip a step or two.

I thought the guilty party should crawl under there and reattach whatever was loose and then close off the area his wife had said to do in the first place. I am certainly not going under there! Instead, we are waiting for the repairman. I suppose I should get dressed ...

Just so you know, we have a free-standing gas heater in here for just such an incident and are not freezing! Should we lose power, we can stay warm.

  1. Why is it that the heating units always go on the fritz during the coldest weather. New feline? Not Polo?

  2. Egads! I hope this is sorted promptly.

  3. I suppose at this late stage you stand no chance of changing The Man's ways. Glad to hear you have an auxiliary heat source.

  4. Our heat pump is also not working, and we just bought a new unit several months ago! At least our furnace is running on auxiliary heat, so we didn't even know until Hick noticed the breaker was tripped on the outside unit, and it did not come on with power restored.
