A Work in Progress

I was hoping I would hear from the x-ray Friday. Realistically, I know Monday will be more likely, then they will have to make an appointment for the actual surgery.

I ventured up the drive to take a breath of fresh air and begin to condition myself to walk up the drive everyday as the weather warms. I needed some things from Wits End, and I wanted to snoop around all my valued supplies that The Man tends to call junk.

I have decided that we need to insulate the shed and put some sheet rock up. It will be an enormous undertaking when you consider how much stuff is in there. I can't simply remove everything and then bring it back in upon completion of the project. I will have to move everything to one side, insulate and put walls up, then pegboard and counter tops. Then take a few days to organize the new side and then move everything to that side to complete the other side.

I currently have a jumble of tables and desks I found on the cheap. It fails to inspire my creative side. So, I will be on the lookout for laminated shelving to use as work surfaces or look for pieces of laminated countertop in the clearance section that will suffice. Doesn't have to match, though that would be nice. The one thing I will spend money on is a 4'X8' plywood with a nice laminate top. It will become my cutting table of 4'X6' in the center of the area. I sold my cutting table along with the mountain of fabric before we moved here.

The current interior is that press board stuff that will poke a splinter into your finger if you aren't careful. This will cover most of that and whatever is left will be sanded and painted. The two lofts will need attention, as well, but that can wait. I will probably be incorporating the big bins of fabric in the lower area under the cutting table.

This was the plan. Then the mail came yesterday with a bill from the recent cardiac tests. Even with Medicare and my supplement insurance, my part was over $500. My supplement does not kick in until I meet my deductible. I will most certainly meet that this year, with the surgical procedure on my hand. I usually come close to the deductible, then a new year starts and I fail to benefit from the plan. My deductible does not include prescriptions; we have a different policy for that. It would seem that the insurance is set up to never have to pay out anything!

Don't even get me started on vet bills. Eddie and Bo both need dental appointments, Toni needs her annual vaccinations, and Kevin needs a new patient work-up and his very special surgery that will prevent more kittens for me to love and take in. If we can catch Garfield, he will need to join Kevin in that procedure.

Lucy is warming up to us. She is still cautious, but we have both been able to pick her up and pet her. Only for seconds, but it is hopeful. Kevin likes to go out and play with her. Yesterday when I opened the door to let him out on the deck they ran to each other and did that head rub thing, started purring quite loudly and then began to play wrestle. I try to sit down with them and put Kevin in my lap, hoping she will come sit with us. Baby steps.

Cold weather is coming our way again, this week has been absolutely wonderful with the temps in the high 60's and low 70's. I noticed some daffodils poking through winter's debris of leaves. Snow crocus are blooming in the land of Wits End. That area needs a good blowing and raking to look magical again. Always a work in progress!

  1. Unless it's a true emergency, in my experience medical. things happen much more slowly than I would like. Good luck on your shed project. I have no doubt you will come up with the necessary materials at a price that's right for you.
