The Stalker

You all probably recall my old blog and the reason I had to go "under cover". My stalker is my ex-daughter-in-law. For some reason she wants to be included in everything about my family. She used to joke that the neighbor children thought she was a witch with her long dark hair and her wardrobe of mostly black clothes. Oh, and all her cats. Now that I look back, maybe she was trying to tell us something.

She is 7 years older than my son. She started chasing him while he was still in high school and would joke that she never wanted to be known as a cradle robber. Back then, I thought she was a lovely young woman and would be a good match for my child. I admit that I was bewitched! My husband never liked her. I don't know if she knew this or even sensed it since he didn't have much to say to her and treated her much the same way he treated any of my friends.

She had a child from a previous marriage that was just a bit older than my oldest grandchild. That didn't bother me, her daughter was a sweet girl, and I got along great with her. When they decided to marry, she wanted a Rennaissance Wedding. Her uncle agreed to host the wedding on his farm, and everyone pitched in to make costumes. The father of the groom went a day early with our motorhome and dug a hole to roast a pig overnight. The rest of us followed the next day with all the food and wildflowers. The wedding was unconventional to say the least. A judge presided and her father and grandfather walked her down the aisle after Drew and I walked our son down the aisle.

Then the feast began as her daughter and my grandson walked around giving out "the king's hot nuts" roasted peanuts. There was a band, and my husband sat in and played drums. There was a petting zoo, and a lot of the guests came in costume, one was a mime. All in all, it was a fun wedding.

Time went on and despite hormone injections, no pregnancy appeared. The relationship was strained. My son is a loyal man and never confided about how bad things were. His twin sister saw it and simply removed herself from any friendship with his wife. Finally, they decided to adopt a baby. My son had an excellent employer, and they paid the bigger portion of the adoption fee. Their baby was born in Texas, and they flew down to give primary care to the tiny little girl who was too premature to leave the hospital.

That baby bonded with my son right away. It was truly love at first sight for him and the now 21-year-old daughter. My son was content with one child, but she immediately set out to start proceedings for another baby against his wishes. My son hates confrontations. His sisters are just the opposite. He started dabbling in drugs. This was all hidden from the parents on both sides. His life became one of an indentured servant.

You will no doubt think I am exaggerating, but I saw that firsthand after two more children joined the family. The family life was not normal on any count. My son worked the evening shift, while she worked from 9 am until 1 pm. He would get home after midnight to find all the children in his bed, and he would just find an empty bed to sleep in.

On occasion he would need to work days to fulfill in-house training. They would send me a plane ticket to stay with children while they were both at work. The discrepancy in their paychecks was a bone of contention I later learned about. My son made a good bit more money than she did, despite all her college years and this made her mad!

Next post I will give you a clear picture of just how manipulative this woman is. She can be quite charming and diminutive and has a close circle of friends who believe her "poor me" persona completely.

  1. It sounds like a very unhealthy relationship.

  2. It was a very unhealthy relationship. I am happy to report that he has remarried a wonderful woman who treats him with love and respect! I am trying to purge myself of this awful memory.
