A Piece of Quiet

Here I sit with at least an hour and a half of silence! I was asked if I would like to accompany the master of my universe to Walmart, I declined. If I go with him, we will have to stop to eat somewhere and get home in time for me to prepare supper and watch the news.

I have things to do. I cannot be galivanting through Walmart buying things we do not want or need. So far, I have prepared the tomatoes picked from my only surviving plant, along with a cucumber I was forced to purchase and some feta cheese. I tossed it in some vinaigrette, and it sits cooling in the fridge.

I sliced a bowl of red onions to pickle and did the dishes and cleaned the microwave. Before he left, I was up the drive spreading rock and weeding the gardens. That was after I scraped the bark off the logs and chopped it into mulch and put it around my tender plants. Watering is not an issue. It has rained every day for as long as I can remember.

On my way down the drive, I plucked the tall brown stems left by the tiger lilies and stacked them neatly. I will save these and use them for thatched roofs on my fairy houses.

Why is the plural of hoof "hooves", but the plural of roof is "roofs"? Just popped into my mind. I seem to be loaded with trivia. I figure that just makes me fun and no one would mind a journey through my mind. It would not be boring. My husband, on the other hand, never questions anything. A trip through his mind would be foggy and uneventful. Was that mean? I did not intend it to be.

Still waiting to hear from the cardiologist about the oral surgery and the man is becoming grouchy with pain. No, they offered nothing for pain. He purchased more Orajel at Walmart yesterday, in the biggest size available. The large economy size. Yes, we were at Walmart yesterday in Blairsville. Their filtered water dispenser is not working. It has been over a month, and we figured they would have remedied that situation by now. So, today he is heading due east to Franklin to obtain the water there. Yes, I have pondered the possibility of purchasing a water filter for the sink. I put it out there once or twice, but he has not taken the bait yet. The water is cheap, and he figures we will be near a Walmart anyway, so ......

We have a new Dollar General grocery close by now. I have suggested they should have filtered water, too. So far, no luck. If everyone would just listen to me, the world would be a better place! At least it would for me.

And now I must end this to get back to the chores that will be so easy to accomplish while I am without interference. I thought about napping, but I can do that any time!

  1. I love having the house to myself but it's a rare event as he never goes anywhere. His errand run takes 30 minutes tops.

    1. My alone time is rare. He does like to run errands, but is usually back too soon!!

  2. Sometimes togetherness grows tiresome, and apartness if a welcome respite. I am imagining the facade of carnival rides themed for a journey through your mind, and the one beside it for a journey through your man's mind. One involves yellow and red, and patterns like shooting stars and spirals, with a tilt-a-whirl seat. The other is industrial gray, with generic lettering, and a 20-year-old Lay-Z-Boy as the conveyance.
