The Trip is Back On

The cold front has mostly gone away. No ice on our driveway and we even managed to go out to eat last night.

The long-awaited trip will begin Monday morning. The weather forecast looks good for it. So, with that in mind, I went out to make the bed in the RV and get our clothes situated. I always take too many, but you never know when you might need another change of clothes. I could go buy more, but I will be too busy for such.

We will be taking a different route. Heading southeast will provide something new to look at. It will be nice to get away. I recently reconnected with a cousin. We are going to see her on the first leg of the trip. I have not seen her since my grandmother died. I think that 1988, so a very long time. She is 3 years younger than me and we share a birthday. I have a lot of cousins, but Donna and her sisters and brother were the ones I was closest to. I spent as much time as I could with them at their house. My mother was not good at hosting other children in her house unless she was the one who suggested it. I remember many sleep overs with Brenda and Donna. I was always in the middle of the bed that we all crammed into. Brenda is 2 years younger.

My mother was not one to foster relationships with family. Always picking until she could find something to pit one against the other, then deny her culpability when things got out of hand. Just the way she was.

After I see Donna, we will head to Jacksonville, Fl and then on to Tallahassee. The scenic route on I-10. I traveled that way too many times to count when I was peddling fabric. We will head up the western side of Georgia and see my nephew and his family. The boys turned 3 on January 1st. I can't wait to see them.

Just one little snafu. While I was cleaning the RV and putting sheets on the bed, I climbed onto the recliner to access the cabinets above and twisted my knee. I heard a loud pop and now I can barely walk. I am still going!! I have a cane and The Man will have to handle taking the canines out to pee. This will be Kevin, the cat's first trip. I bought a harness for him and a disposable litter box that will be on the top bed above the cab. Can't put him in the bathroom, that is Dora's territory and I don't relish the thought of a turtle with an injury or a cat with an injury. Best to keep them apart.

I am icing the knee and think maybe a nap is in order ......

  1. Oh, no! A POP isn't good! I hope the knee settles down, and you don't have too much pain on your journey. It will be good to reconnect with family. Safe travels!

  2. I popped a tendon trying to do a split in a sling. Took a couple of months to heal. Hope your knee heals faster. It will be interesting to see how Kevin handles traveling. We had a cat who didn't mind the car at all. This was when we were commuting back and forth from the city to the country. She would lay on the console between us and never utter a peep or freak out.
