We Like Her Better Sick!

BoJangles here. No need to add the mister before my name, we are all friends here. These past few weeks have been confusing for all of us dogs and cat and turtle.

Mom has been so sick. Oh, she gets up with us every morning and lets us out, then feeds us most of the time. Some mornings she skips out on the feeding of us, and we all go back to bed. Most of the time she feeds us, though. Every day has involved a nap. In fact, some days she stays in her nightgown all day and sleeps most of the day and into the night.

She must be really tired, although I must admit that I could sleep all day and all night as long as I get to eat at some point. Eddie is worried and has not let Mom out of his sight. He takes every nap with her and stays right next to her. Toni Louise is, well .... oblivious about the goings on in our house unless it pertains directly to her.

Today Mom got up and fed us and took care of undiapering Toni, then washing the diaper. Mom has to diaper Toni, no matter how dizzy she is or how bad her head hurts. Dad just can't seem to figure it out. Toni has a lot of fur. I mean a LOT of fur. Even her toes have fur. Mom says the secret to getting the diaper on is to isolate all that fur or it will get stuck in the velcro strips that hold that diaper in place.

Dad needs to have four hands; he just can't do it. Eddie and I find this amusing. Kevin is still too new to understand all the undercurrents in our household. He is a fast learner, though.

This morning Mom said she wanted to address "Toni's hairy situation". Uh-oh. Eddie and I watched as she pulled the clippers out of their hiding place. Kevin was outside with his pal, Lucy. Mom put Toni up on a table and sat down, talking to Toni in a low voice. Like I said, Toni is either oblivious or very dumb because she fell for all the sweet talk and got all comfy on the table. Her tail was thumping like Mom was going to give out treats.

Dad was skeptical when he came in the house with Kevin. He went over to the table to "hold" Toni. Mom was doing just fine, as Eddie and I can testify. Dora was watching from her wet perch under the heat lamp. Dora really does not care what Mom does to us. When Dad decided to help, Toni got impatient and Mom stood up to be able to get to all the pertinent areas (bet you didn't know I knew that word!).

Kevin took Mom's seat in the chair and when she turned the clippers back on, he looked horrified. Eddie and I were laughing, it was so funny. Then he swiped at Mom's hand that held the clippers. I looked at Eddie, he had tears running down his furry face, shaking with laughter. Kevin has what Mom calls an expressive face, and it makes all of us laugh.

Then we heard her tell Dad that Toni needed a bath. Oh, no! I grabbed Kevin and we ran to the bedroom to hide under the bed. Eddie just stayed in his daybed, confidant that he was safe. Dad took Toni to the tub and put her in. Then when Mom turned her back, he let go of Toni. Doesn't her know to close the bathroom door? Toni came under the bed and Kevin and I relocated to the area behind Dad's chair. I told him if he was shocked at the clippers, he would definitely not appreciate the shower.

Toni refuses to come out. Eddie said she should be glad that Mom has trouble crawling around on the floor, because when Mom decides someone is getting a bath, she is not easily discouraged. Poor stupid Eddie, sitting there for all the world to see like a target!

You are right if you guessed that Eddie got a bath. He also got a trim he was not expecting. He is currently wrapped in a towel sitting with Dad, giving Mom the stink-eye.

As happy as we all are that Mom is feeling better, I have to admit that I liked her better when she was sick!
